    • Electronics Applications: Heat sinks for computers use magnesium to efficiently draw heat away. Housings and casings in mobile phones, laptops, and other electronics are also commonly made of die-cast magnesium alloys.
    • Construction Applications: It is used in formworks for construction where its strength and recyclability are leveraged. Scaffolding and roadside applications utilize magnesium alloys for their durable yet lightweight profile.
    • Other Applications: Sports equipment, medical implants, and specialty applications also use high-quality magnesium rod for its physical properties.

    Production of Magnesium Rod

    Magnesium is extracted through electrolysis or thermal reduction of magnesium salts or minerals containing magnesium. The common production processes include:

    • Casting – Liquid magnesium is cast into ingots or billets which are then used to produce rods through extrusion or forging. Die casting is a fast casting method used.
    • Extrusion – Heated magnesium billets are forced through a die opening to form long rod profiles with consistent cross-sections.
    • Rolling – Magnesium ingots are passed through heavy rollers to obtain thin sheets or strips. Further rolling yields rods and bars.
    • Powder Metallurgy – Magnesium powder is compacted and sintered to obtain near-net shapes for intricate parts.
